The APEC Center for Technology Foresight (APEC CTF), hosted by NXPO, has received a Carbon Neutral Event Certificate (No. ZC-2026-10-6292) from the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO). The certification recognizes the event “APEC Young Futurists: Frontier Technologies and Solutions for Future Food,” jointly organized by APEC CTF-NXPO and the APEC Research Center for Advanced Biohydrogen Technology (APEC ACABT) of Chinese Taipei from 28 September to 1 October 2026 in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand.

The event offset 9.82 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e) through carbon credits sourced from the 129.47-megawatt Ban Pho Power Plant, a natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant operated by Gulf BP that uses Dry Low Emission technology.

This initiative aligns directly with the event’s central theme. Food systems are a significant source of global greenhouse gas emissions, while climate change poses growing challenges to food sustainability. These interconnected issues represent a major challenge for the APEC region and served as the basis for participants from APEC economies to apply strategic foresight in developing solutions for future food systems. Their proposals included an agricultural waste data platform and low-cost fermentation processes using agricultural by-products, both of which emphasize resource efficiency and the reduction of carbon emissions across food systems.

APEC Young Futurists 2026 is the latest APEC CTF-NXPO event to receive Carbon Neutral Event certification, following the Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) event held in June 2026. This continued effort reflects NXPO’s commitment to integrating carbon assessment and offsetting into its events and activities, while advancing science, technology, and innovation policies that support Thailand’s transition to a low-carbon economy and its long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality.
