NXPO and the Office of Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion (OSMEP) organized Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) seminar as part of their joint project to promote micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with the BCG model. The event which took place at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) on 29 June 2023 was opened by Mr. Panitarn Pavarolavidya, Boutique Newcity PCL Chairman and Executive Member of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

Mr. Panitarn Pavarolavidya stated that the BCG implementation requires concerted effort and collaboration from all sectors, especially on the part of net zero emission goal and this event represents a significant milestone that brings together all sectors to build a BCG society for sustainable development.

NXPO Director of Sustainable Development Policy and Future Planning Division Dr. Saravanee Singtong remarked that this event is co-organized by Boutique Newcity, Sahapat Group, and FTI, as a gathering of Thai enterprises and government agencies to discuss BCG role in creating business sustainability and to design BCG indicators. Information collected from both activities will be further analyzed to serve the policy design process.

Speakers at the BCG seminar on business sustainability were drawn from prominent organizations involved in the BCG model, including Ms. Anothai Sangthong, Director of Communications and Carbon Credit Registry Office, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO); Mr. Paiboon Dumrongwaree, Assistant Secretary-General (Fundraising), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); Mr. Mongkol Setthanupong, Manager at Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand; and Mr. Norachai Rungsivichitprapa, Policy Specialist at NXPO. During the session, global trends were presented and discussed, covering issues on health, aging society, digital transformation, energy, environment, and climate change. These trends not only impact enterprises, but also dictate Thailand’s net zero emission goal. The seminar reached a conclusion that businesses must put emphasis on the environment alongside profit making to ensure sustainability. Each speaker also presented the programs and activities that his/her organization set up to drive the BCG model and enable firms to achieve business sustainability, such as carbon footprint assessment and carbon finance.

The BCG Indicator Workshop is a brainstorming session, aiming to design indicators to serve as a tool to evaluate BCG business and facilitate access to financial and technical assistance to make business improvement towards sustainability. The session was facilitated by Mr. Chalerm Kokanutaporn and Dr. Savanit Boonyasuwat from FTI, Asst. Prof. Chol Bunnag, Director of Center for SDG Research and Support (SDG Move); and Dr. Saravanee Singtong.
