The CTCN Asia and the Pacific National Designated Entity (NDE) Forum 2023 was held on 13-16 November 2023 during the Asia-Pacific Climate Week 2023 in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Organized by the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) – the Technology Mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the forum centered around the theme “System Transformation through Climate Technology Transfer”. Participants included NDEs, selected Advisory Board (AB) and Technology Executive Committee (TEC) Members, network members, and other stakeholders who gathered to present and discuss CTCN programs and initiatives.

NXPO, serving as Thailand’s NDE, participated in this annual gathering and was represented by Vice President Dr. Surachai Sathitkunarat and Policy Specialist Dr. Chanida Sansaard. The forum covered various agenda items, including the CTCN 3rd Programme of Work and TEC Rolling workplan 2023-2027, the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA) Phase 2, the Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) Phase 5 in which Thailand was selected to take part, and the Technology Assistance (TA) Program.

During the forum, Dr. Surachai shared NXPO’s experience as Thailand’s NDE and discussed TA projects implemented in the country. He highlighted Thailand’s undertakings in building and resilient infrastructure in the TA project aimed at fostering green buildings in Thailand. He also participated in the “Roundtable on Collaborative Research Development and Demonstration (RD&D) Facilitation”, where he discussed international RD&D collaboration facility in Thailand and engaged in the brainstorming session on priority ideas for TA.

The CTCN Asia and the Pacific NDE Forum 2023 was designed with the focus on the five system transformation areas: 1) Water-Food-Energy Nexus, 2) Building and Resilient Infrastructure, 3) Sustainable Mobility, 4) Energy Systems, and 5) Business and Industry. The forum also sought to foster National Systems of Innovation and Digitalization, recognized as two key enablers for system transformation that facilitates mitigation and adaptation efforts.
