NXPO and OECD to design policy to promote Thailand’s carbon neutrality

วันที่เผยแพร่ 21 April 2023

NXPO and OECD Division of Science and Technology Policy held a virtual meeting on 20 April 2023 to discuss a new project titled “Supporting STI strategy for carbon neutrality and transitions”. The project is to be implemented under the OECD-Thailand Country Program Phase II, with the main objective to propose a set of short- and long-term policy recommendations to enable Thailand to meet carbon neutrality goal and sustainability. The online meeting was attended by NXPO team led by President Dr. Kitipong Promwong, Senior Strategist Dr. Kanchana Wanichkorn, International Policy Partnership Division Director Dr. Pranpreya Sriwannawit Lundberg.

Thailand has set the target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. To meet this goal, changes need to be made, particularly in the energy and industrial sectors, with great attention to be paid on energy efficiency and biomass utilization. Policy will need to be devised to create an innovation ecosystem and investment environment conducive to drive climate technology in Thailand.

The Thailand Country Programme Phase II is a 3-year partnership program between Thailand and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The partnership agreement was signed by OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann and Thailand Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Mr. Supattanapong Punmeechaow on 17 March 2023. The Thailand Country Programme Phase II will involve 19 Thai agencies in 20 projects spread across four pillars: 1) good governance, 2) business climate and competitiveness, 3) social inclusion and human capital development, and 4) green recovery.
