NXPO partners with public and private organizations to advance Thailand’s 2030 Sustainable Tourism Goals

วันที่เผยแพร่ 22 July 2025

On 21 July 2025, NXPO joined 20 public and private organizations in signing a Letter of Intent to drive Thailand toward achieving its Sustainable Tourism Goals (STGs) by 2030. The signing ceremony, hosted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and presided over by Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, affirmed the collective commitment to strengthening Thailand’s tourism ecosystem through sustainable development.

As a strategic partner in this initiative, NXPO will focus on advancing policy, research, and innovation to support the transition toward sustainable and regenerative tourism while enhancing Thailand’s soft power. NXPO’s key initiatives include: 1) Establishing Regenerative Tourism Labs for knowledge exchange, research collaboration, and the promotion of best practices in sustainable tourism; 2) Upskilling and reskilling tourism professionals; 3) Creating Creative Platforms and Co-Creation Models for fostering collaboration among government, industry, civil society, and tourism networks; and 4) Elevating Thailand’s tourism standards.

The partnership aims to establish a clear framework and roadmap for sustainable tourism development by integrating the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the Sustainable Tourism Goals. It also seeks to enhance tourism products and services while supporting environmentally responsible business practices under TAT’s certification schemes, including the STGs Sustainable Tourism Acceleration Rating (STGs STAR), Carbon Footprint Hotels (CF-Hotels), and the Thailand Tourism Awards (TTA). In 2025, TAT will introduce a new award category for Tourism Support and Promotion Organizations and expand sustainability awards across all categories.

The 21 organizations under this partnership include: 1) TAT, 2) Department of Tourism, 3) Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCCE), 4) Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO), 5) Sports Authority of Thailand, 6) Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration, 7) Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), 8) NXPO, 9) Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), 10) Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA), 11) Thai Hotels Association (THA), 12) Thai Ecotourism and Adventure Travel Association (TEATA), 13) Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT), 14) Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation, 15) Asset World Corp (AWC), 16) Central Group, 17) Minor International, 18) Dusit Thani, 19) The Mall Group, 20) Siam Piwat, and 21) One Bangkok.

This collaboration marks the beginning of a comprehensive joint effort for the 2025–2027 period. Planned actions include expanding the number of certified sustainable businesses and communities nationwide under standards from TAT (STGs STAR, CF-Hotels, TTA), the DCCE (Green Hotel Plus), and the Department of Tourism (Thailand Green Plan 2030), while aligning with international benchmarks. The partnership will co-create net-zero tourism routes, promote carbon-neutral MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events, and build awareness of climate change and carbon offsetting. It will also introduce practical tools for tourism and MICE operators to assess and offset greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) Model and ESG/Eco-Efficiency principles will be applied to sports tourism and events. Support will also be extended to hotels, restaurants, and shopping centers to reduce energy and resource consumption, minimize waste and emissions, and adopt zero-waste practices.
