MHESI-NXPO presents Net Zero Campus progress at SUN Thailand Meeting

วันที่เผยแพร่ 16 May 2025

Dr. Saravanee Singtong, Director of Sustainable Development Policy Division at NXPO, together with Dr. Chanida Sansaard, Policy Specialist, and Dr. Natthamon Suwannaprom, Policy Developer, participated in the Meeting of the Sustainable University Network of Thailand (SUN Thailand) on 10-11 May 2025, at Thaksin University, Phatthalung Campus. The NXPO team presented updates on the progress of the Net Zero Campus project — a collaborative initiative between NXPO and the Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT).

In his opening remarks, Assist. Prof. Dr. Pomthong Malakul Na Ayudhaya, Secretary-General of CUPT, emphasized the importance of international collaboration in strengthening SUN Thailand’s efforts to support the country’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.

During the meeting, Dr. Saravanee outlined the implementation progress of the Net Zero Campus project at both national and international levels, highlighting the critical role of universities as sources of innovation and technology in driving Thailand’s net zero transition. She also stressed the need to establish a Greenhouse Gas Accounting system that can be integrated with the national greenhouse gas inventory. This effort, requires the development of enabling frameworks encompassing policy, financial support, and performance indicators. The National Innovation System (NIS) can be leveraged to improve access to international climate finance mechanisms.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sirichai Koonaphapdeelert, Director of the Energy Research and Development Institute-Nakornping, Chiang Mai University, reported on the progress of Net Zero Campus Project Phase 1, noting that 67 institutions have registered on the platform, with 17 having completed data submissions. The reported greenhouse gas emissions and removals will serve as essential data for policy formulation. The implementation plan for Phase 2 was also presented to gather feedback from SUN Thailand executives for further refinement.
