MHESI-NXPO collaborates with UNEP-CCC on Technology Needs Assessment

วันที่เผยแพร่ 18 December 2025

On 17 December 2025, the APEC Center for Technology Foresight (APEC CTF), hosted by NXPO, convened a meeting with experts from the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (UNEP-CCC) and the consulting team from The Creagy to plan the development of Thailand’s Second Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) Report (Phase V). The meeting focused on the application of foresight tools to strengthen evidence-based and forward-looking decision-making.

The discussion was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wongkot Wongapai, Vice President of NXPO, and Dr. Kommate Jitvanichphaibool, Deputy Director of APEC CTF, together with Prof. Rajendra Shrestha, Dr. Subash Dhar, and Dr. Marie Blanche Ting. The dialogue underscored the importance of integrating foresight methodologies into Thailand’s technology assessment process.

The meeting featured presentations on horizon scanning, which identify key technology trends and drivers of change. These insights will serve as core evidence for technology selection and prioritization, ensuring alignment with Thailand’s rapidly evolving context.

The working group jointly established a timeline and key milestones for the second TNA. These include the identification of priority sectors covering both climate change mitigation and adaptation, using horizon scanning outputs in combination with established prioritization criteria.

The discussion reaffirmed NXPO’s role as Thailand’s national TNA Coordinator, serving as the lead agency applying advanced science, technology, and innovation processes to inform policy development and support Thailand’s transition toward carbon neutrality, with technical support from UNEP-CCC and financial support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
