MHESI-NXPO presents nature-based solutions in Thailand’s science, research and innovation framework

วันที่เผยแพร่ 13 November 2025

On 12 November 2025, Assoc. Prof. Wongkot Wongsapai, Vice President of NXPO, participated in the 51st International Congress on Science, Technology and Technology-based Innovation (STT51), held under the theme “Collaboration Across Frontiers: From Quantum and Cosmos to Global Biodiversity.” He served as a panelist in a session titled “Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Climate Mitigation and Driving NbS in Thailand and Internationally,” part of the Symposium on Nature-based Solutions for Climate Mitigation. Other distinguished speakers in this session included Dr. Andreas A. Hutahaean from Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB University), the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and Mr. Pakkasem Tongchai from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Assoc. Prof. Wongkot discussed the upcoming 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will address 30 key agenda items. These include the conservation, protection, and restoration of nature and ecosystems, as well as solutions related to climate change, biodiversity loss, and desertification — all of which are interconnected and require the application of NbS to deliver short-, medium-, and long-term impacts. He also highlighted the progress made by various countries, including Thailand, in integrating the NbS concept into their national policies. Thailand’s National Climate Change Research Framework and Program (2027–2032) outlines action plans related to adaptation and area-based development. The framework explicitly incorporates NbS as a key approach and identifies it as one of the country’s priority missions in climate change research and innovation.

Within this context, NXPO aims to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 10 million tons of CO₂ equivalent. The organization has introduced several initiatives to promote sustainable environmental solutions, including the policy framework for systemic water management innovation, the development of Green Enterprise Indicator (GEI), and the National Climate Change Research Framework and Program, implemented in collaboration with the Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCCE) and Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI).
