NXPO has forged a partnership with the China Industrial Association of Power Sources (CIAPS), China’s leading professional battery association. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 14 May 2025, to facilitate knowledge exchange aimed at developing policies and strategic plans for Thailand’s electric vehicle (EV) battery industry. The MoU was formalized by Assoc. Prof. Wongkot Wongsapai, Vice President of NXPO, and Mr. Wang Zeshen, Secretary General of CIAPS, during a ceremony held in Shenzhen, China.
This collaboration aims to bolster Thailand’s capabilities in formulating comprehensive battery strategies, supportive policies, enabling factors, and strategic plans. The partnership intends to foster the growth of Thai entrepreneurs and enhance skill development within the EV battery sector. The framework outlined in the MoU includes policy and technology exchange with leading experts, entrepreneurs, and academics within China’s advanced battery industry, facilitated through CIAPS’ extensive network. Furthermore, the initiative will encompass joint knowledge exchange forums and workshops bringing together key stakeholders from both Thailand and China. This strategic alliance is anticipated to strengthen Thailand’s position in the global battery industry value chain and foster international connections. It also marks a significant milestone in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Thailand–China cooperation under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI).

The signing coincided with the 4th China International Battery Industry Cooperation Summit (CIBICS), held in conjunction with the 17th China International Battery Fair, the world’s largest battery technology exhibition featuring over 3,000 exhibitors, taking place in Shenzhen from 14-16 May 2025.

Furthermore, Assoc. Prof. Wongkot Wongsapai and Dr. Thanakarn Wongdeethai, Director of the Future Mobility and Automotive Technology Policy Program at NXPO, jointly delivered a presentation outlining Thailand’s current policies, research strategies, innovation initiatives, and future battery development plans at the CIBICS.

While Thailand anticipates a continued surge in battery demand and has successfully attracted significant foreign investment, with the Board of Investment (BOI) securing commitments from 10 leading global battery manufacturers to establish production facilities within the country, further strategic development is crucial. To realize its ambition of becoming a prominent player in the global battery value chain, Thailand recognizes the necessity of developing a comprehensive national battery strategic plan, underpinned by clear and effective policy frameworks, to solidify its standing on the international stage.
