Thailand has been participating in the OECD Country Program since 2018. Thailand Country Program was launched on 31 May 2018. The three-year initiative aims to support Thailand’s structural reform efforts, focusing on inclusive growth, governance, transparency, the business climate and competitiveness. 

Prior to the launch of Thailand Country Program, Thailand joined the OECD Committee for Scientific and Technological Policy (CSTP) in 2016 with NXPO serving as a designated representative of the Thai Government on the Committee. Participation in CSTP provides NXPO with a broad perspective on S&T policies in other countries, some of which can be applied to Thailand to make improvements in its own S&T policies, as well as a platform to inform the global S&T community of Thailand’s S&T policies. CSTP also fosters international collaboration among its members through various activities, thus providing opportunities for Thai scientific communities to have access to global expertise and also raise awareness of Thai science on the world stage. The activities with CSTP are now incorporated into Thailand Country Program. 

Under Thailand Country Program, NXPO takes part in two projects: 

1. STIP Compass (International Database on Science, Technology and Innovation Policies). The STIP Compass is an initiative of the European Commission and the OECD to collect together in one place quantitative and qualitative data on national trends in science, technology and innovation (STI) policy. The database, which is publicly accessible, enables the continuous monitoring and analysis of countries’ STI policies and aims to become a central platform for policy research and advice supporting government officials, analysts and scholars. NXPO serves as Thailand’s contact point to provide national data by collecting information from relevant stakeholders in Thailand. 2. Biorefinery Sector in Thailand. The study, being conducted by NXPO, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), and OCED as of 2020, will provide a set of recommendations for the Thai Government on strategies to develop the biorefinery sector and investment in infrastructure and technology with the focus on decentralized small-scale biorefineries.
