On 16 June 2026, NXPO organized a workshop on the development of data governance for the higher education, science, research and innovation system. The event was officially opened by Dr. Siriporn Pittayasophon, Vice President of NXPO.<\/p>\n\n\n

In her opening remarks, Dr. Siriporn noted that since the reform of Thailand\u2019s higher education, science, research and innovation system in 2020, NXPO has worked to consolidate the ministry\u2019s key databases to strengthen operational efficiency. These include the National Research and Innovation Information System (NRIIS), the National Science and Technology Information System (NSTIS), and the Higher Education Database System (HiEd DB). Through this effort, five key categories of information have been identified for integration: personnel data, research projects, research outputs, theses and dissertations, and research infrastructure. As these datasets are managed by multiple agencies, the long-term objective is to enable seamless communication and data exchange among the databases, thereby improving efficiency and expediting operations. Before achieving full interoperability, however, it is essential to establish data governance mechanisms and data standards. The workshop therefore provided a platform for relevant stakeholders to discuss approaches for connecting existing databases and supporting effective data integration.<\/p>\n\n\n

The workshop featured presentations by representatives from key agencies involved in data governance and information management. In a session on data governance, Dr. Urachada Ketprom, Director of the Government Digital Standards Division at the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA), presented the Digital Government Readiness Assessment Framework for public-sector organizations, the government data catalog system, as well as the principles, framework, and implementation guidelines for data governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Putthachad Wattanawimonkorn, Specialist from the Division of Strategic Data Systems and Management for Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation at the Office of the Permanent Secretary, MHESI, delivered a presentation on the Higher Education Database System (HiEd DB), highlighting the structure of higher education databases, data management practices, and open data initiatives. In addition, Ms. Mariyad Tangmitcharoen, Director of the Division of Strategic Information Systems and Management for Science, Research and Innovation at the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), presented the National Research and Innovation Information System (NRIIS), emphasizing the role of information systems in enhancing the value and utilization of research and innovation, as well as the key mechanisms for driving the effective use of science, research and innovation data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the presentations, participants engaged in a mini workshop to exchange information, share experiences, and discuss current challenges related to the collection, management, and integration of government databases. The outcomes of these discussions will contribute to the development of a comprehensive data governance framework for MHESI\u2019s information systems and support future efforts to integrate the ministry\u2019s core databases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
