NXPO, in collaboration with the Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT) and the Energy Research and Development Institute\u2013Nakornping (ERDI) at Chiang Mai University, organized the Net Zero Campus Roadshow in the Southern Region on 18 September 2025. Hosted by Prince of Songkla University, the event aimed to strengthen the university network under the Net Zero Campus platform and gather input to inform national policies, strategies, and pathways toward the country\u2019s net-zero emissions target. The opening remarks were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Wongkot Wongsapai, Vice President of NXPO, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tanit Chalermyanont, Vice President of Prince of Songkla University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Saravanee Singtong, Director of the Sustainability Policy Division at NXPO, outlined the policy framework for advancing the Net Zero Campus initiative, \u00a0the structure of Thailand\u2019s higher education, science, research, and innovation system, as well as the allocation of resources from the Science, Research, and Innovation Promotion Fund to support climate-related actions. She also highlighted NXPO\u2019s role as Thailand\u2019s National Designated Entity (NDE) for coordinating climate technology development and transfer, including implementation of the Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To accelerate progress, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in 2024 among NXPO, the Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCCE), Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), and CUPT. At the international level, the initiative was presented at COP29, with contributions from faculty members from the University of Washington (USA) and Monash University (Australia). The initiative also emphasizes developing green skills in the workforce, mobilizing resources from the Fundamental Fund and Seed Fund, creating reporting frameworks, and establishing university rankings\u2014all in alignment with Thailand\u2019s forthcoming Climate Change Act.<\/p>\n\n\n

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sirichai Koonaphapdeelert, ERDI Director, presented on the development of a centralized platform for data collection and reporting on university greenhouse gas emissions, along with best practices and research initiatives aligned with Thailand\u2019s net-zero goals. <\/p>\n\n\n

Asst. Prof. Dr. Natanee Vorayos, ERDI Deputy Director, discussed methodologies for assessing and reporting emissions, as well as guidelines for inputting and managing data on the centralized platform to support mitigation measures and track progress. <\/p>\n\n\n

Assoc. Prof. Charongpun Musikavong, Associate Dean for Research and Innovation, Faculty of Engineering, Prince of Songkla University, shared the university\u2019s experiences, including the development of a platform covering all campuses of Prince of Songkla University.<\/p>\n\n\n

The event concluded with a brainstorming session where representatives from universities across the region exchanged perspectives on implementation strategies, challenges, and opportunities.
