On 31 March 2025, NXPO convened an online meeting with Thai agencies to prepare for Thailand\u2019s participation in the 2025 EC-OECD Science, Technology, and Innovation Policies (STIP) Survey \u2014 a joint initiative of the European Commission (EC) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).<\/p>\n\n\n

In his opening remarks, NXPO President Dr. Surachai Sathitkunarat highlighted that the STIP Survey collects both quantitative and qualitative data on global science, technology, and innovation (STI) policy trends. While Thailand is not yet an OECD member, it has been invited to contribute, providing valuable insights that will be integrated into the STIP Compass\u2014a publicly accessible platform recognized as the world\u2019s most comprehensive repository of STI policies.<\/p>\n\n\n

The STIP Survey is conducted biennially, and Thailand has participated since 2017, following its engagement with the OECD\u2019s Committee for Scientific and Technological Policy (CSTP) in 2015. At that time, the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy Office (STI Office)\u2014now NXPO\u2014represented Thailand in the CSTP and has since served as the country\u2019s coordinator for the survey.<\/p>\n\n\n

The briefing introduced the EC-OECD STIP Compass platform to Thai agencies expected to contribute data. The collected information will be compiled and analyzed for the STI Outlook report, supporting the implementation of Science and Technology Policy 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis undertaking benefits both Thailand and participating agencies. Their policy initiatives gain international visibility on the OECD platform, while Thailand can leverage insights from OECD\u2019s extensive policy database,\u201d Dr. Surachai noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the remarks, OECD representatives Mr. David Howoldt, Policy Analyst and Ms. Jovana Poznan, Research officer presented an overview of the STIP Compass platform, demonstrating its functionalities and applications. They also introduced a new AI tool designed to expedite survey response. The session included a review of Thailand\u2019s current data status within the STIP Compass.<\/p>\n\n\n

NXPO International Policy Partnership Director Dr. Pranpreya Sriwannawit Lundberg provided further details on Thailand\u2019s STIP survey participation. She reaffirmed Thailand\u2019s commitment to ongoing engagement with the OECD through CSTP activities, reinforcing its position as a candidate for OECD accession. Dr. Pranpreya also outlined the 2025 STIP Survey process, detailing policy areas, the agencies involved in each policy area, and timelines.
