A webinar unveiling STIP Compass 2023 took place on October 5, 2023. This event, co-organized by the European Commission (EC) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), presented the policy data collected from the 2023 Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy (STIP) survey and provided an update on STIP Compass, an EC-OECD joint initiative aimed at consolidating qualitative and quantitative data on national STIP trends in one platform. Thailand is among the countries whose data are featured in STIP Compass 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attended by more than 200 audience members from 49 countries, the meeting was chaired by Magda De Carli, Head of Unit \/ Deputy Director, DG Research and Innovation, EC and was inaugurated by Joanna Drake, Deputy Director-General, DG Research and Innovation, EC and Jerry Sheehan, Director, Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), OECD. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his presentation introducing the 2023 EC-OECD STIP Compass dataset and project novelties, Andr\u00e9s Barreneche, Economist \/ Policy Analyst, DSTI, OECD revealed that the latest edition features 7,700 policy initiatives, 350 policy debates and 8,000 EC-OECD publications. These data contributions came from 1,500 government officials representing 57 countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the introduction of 2023 edition of the EC-OECD STIP Compass database, a panel discussion took place with representatives from Thailand, Greece, Spain, the EC and the OECD. The session was moderated by Alessandra Colecchia, Head of the Science and Technology Policy Division, DSTI, OECD.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representing Thailand on the panel was NXPO International Policy Partnership Director Dr. Pranpreya Sriwannawit Lundberg. Dr. Pranpreya emphasized the alignment of STIP Compass with NXPO\u2019s mission. While contributing Thailand\u2019s STIP data to the global database, NXPO also accesses STIP data of other countries for its policy research and analysis activities. In the thematic portals, Thailand has provided comprehensive data for COVID-19 Watch and STI Policies for Net Zero, demonstrating its commitment to addressing critical global issues. Dr. Pranpreya also offered suggestions to the project on the survey questionnaire, data visualization, and the application of technologies such as generative artificial intelligence, semantic technology and large language models in data processing and analysis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The STIP Compass database contains information gathered from the survey which is administered every two years. It is widely recognized as the world\u2019s most comprehensive STIP database. The database is publicly available to support policy analysis and advice and contributes to the development of STI Outlook and S&T Policy 2025, carried out by the OECD. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
